September Notes

5th Grade News

We have been in school almost a month. It doesn't seem possible!

I have a few things I would like to share with you.

As most of you already know, Sister Rose Marie Weber is with us this semester as our student teacher.  Sister has a degree in Math from Fort Hays State University and is now completing her degree in Elementary Education.. How lucky we are to have her!

We will spend this year preparing for Middle School, State Assessments, and the Diocesan Religion Test in May.  As you may have already noticed, there is an increase in the amount of homework your child has each night.  An hour or less is not considered too much but if they usually have a great deal more than that, there may be a problem with using their time wisely in class or having a problem understanding a subject.  Please keep an eye on them and contact me at school if you have any concerns.  We are working on paying attention in class and following directions after carefully reading them, not being in a big hurry to complete things just to get them done.

Students may now access the website for our Math series.  They will be given their username and passwords so they may do this from any computer that has internet access. Here is the link for that

This site has tutorials, videos, worksheets, games and interactive math tools.  This can be a terrific resource for them at home!

Some up-coming things to be aware of:

Visit to the Sedgwick County Zoo  Tuesday, October 6th from 9:30-2:00  5th Grade Fire Prevention Program

Sack lunches will be provided.  Students will need sunscreen and they may wear jeans according to the Handbook policy.  We will need drivers who have proof of insurance, Virtus training and a valid driver's license.  Zoo admission is free for drivers who stay with the students.  More information as the time draws nearer.

Thank you for allowing me to be a partner in your child's education!
